5 Things WWE Did Right At Battleground

2 Chris Jericho Beating Bray Wyatt Was a Pleasant Surprise

When Chris Jericho wrestled Bray Wyatt the expectation was that Wyatt would win because Jericho has a history of putting people over. We don’t see Jericho win the big matches anymore since he’s always willing to put over the younger guys. Jericho’s 43 years old, Wyatt is 27. It made sense that the younger guy would get the win.
Their match had a really slow pace to it. The crowd wasn’t into it as much as you might expect, but that was partly because the Tampa crowd wasn’t that loud too. When Jericho hit Wyatt with the Codebreaker after 15 minutes of action, the crowd was probably expecting a kickout. It didn’t happen. Jericho won. JBL on commentary said it almost felt like an upset even though Jericho is a 6-time World Champion. It was actually a good point.
The reason Jericho’s win was a pleasant surprise is that if Wyatt won it would have been too predictable. When things are predictable they tend to boring. Since Jericho has the upper hand now, they can have another match where Wyatt turns up the aggressiveness in order to overcome the WWE legend.
Wyatt fans are probably upset about the loss, but if you look at the long term picture it can definitely be seen as a good thing. Jericho isn’t Cena. He’s not going to win the feud.
