10 Reasons WWE Fans Are Sick Of John Cena (8)

8. He Never Gets Hurt

John Cena defended the WWE Championship against Ryback in a Last Man Standing Match at Extreme Rules on May 19, 2013. The bout happened to be somewhat of a breakout performance for Ryback, who more than held his own against WWE’s top guy. But this match was nothing special for Cena, as he ended the night walking on water.
So you might say it was business as usual.
Despite the fact that this fight took place all over the arena and despite the fact that both men literally threw everything they had at each other in order to win, Cena came out looking good as always. And even when he was drove back-first through an explosive set at the top of the stage, Cena showed no ill effects at all.
In fact he later refused to be taken the hospital for his injuries and then got up off the stretcher, walking away on his own power.
This the part that WWE fans likely have the biggest complaint with when it comes to John Cena. No matter how much he’s beat down or physically assaulted in a match, John always gets back up as if he never felt a thing. He begins the night on his feet smiling and he typically ends it exactly the same way.
It’s as if everything in between never happened.
Pro wrestling works for many reasons but one of the most basic is the fact that the guys in the ring sell the moves. Selling is part of the drama, it’s part of the believability of the match itself. The better a talent can sell, the more that fans are able to suspend their disbelief for long enough to enjoy what they’re seeing. Selling makes a match work.
But when John Cena takes one of the worst storyline beatings that fans have seen in quite a while only to then sit up and walk away for the whole world to see and marvel at?
Nothing about that works. And he does it all the time.
