10 Depressing WWE Career Free Falls 4

4. Damien Sandow

Much like Alberto Del Rio, Sandow received a big push upon his debut (if you ignore his time as Idol Stevens). While his gimmick seemed straight out of the 80s, he was great at it. He appeared to be Vince McMahon’s pet project for awhile as he was protected from a booking standpoint, and given big segments to participate in like interrupting the D-Generation X reunion at Raw 1000.
Sandow’s Peak: WWE seemed to lose a bit of interest in Sandow after the DX skit, but he eventually earned enough of management’s faith again to capture the Money in the Bank briefcase last summer.
Where he is Now: No man should even have to speak of what has happened to Damien Sandow these days. He’s stuck playing dress up in a gimmick that didn’t work for Stevie Richards, The Big Show and Charlie Haas over the past 15 years. Recently, he jobbed to The Great Khali in a matter of seconds. Every time you think he’s hit a new low, he hits another one the following week.
Chance of a Comeback: 40%. Sandow won’t ever become a main-eventer. Hogan, Austin, Rock, Undertaker, Hart, Cena, and Shawn Michaels never went through months of humiliation like he has. It just can’t be overcome. However, he could propel himself back into at least an Intercontinental type range with the role of the occasional TV main event against a top babyface. At 31 years-old, he’ll have years to turn his career around, and hopefully stop spoofing other people. He’s just too talented not to get a few more chances.
