3. Rey Mysterio Jr
Rey is one of the most popular babyfaces in WWE over the past decade. He’s had great matches with a wide variety of talent in his career, and has been one of the highest merchandise sellers in the company. Due to age and a string of injuries, he’s slowed down quite a bit over the past few years, but still receives a strong reaction whenever his music hits.
Mysterio’s Peak: Despite being the smallest man in the match, Mysterio went the distance and won the 2006 Royal Rumble. At WrestleMania 22, Mysterio defied the odds and became the World Heavyweight Champion. The good times did not last long.
Where he is Now: Mysterio had one of the most awful title reigns in company history. He lost cleanly to The Great Khali and Mark Henry before mercifully dropping the title. Even though he was not being pushed as a top star, he remained popular. He even captured the WWE title in 2011…only to lose it to John Cena later that night. Due to his injuries, and wellness policy violations, WWE quickly gave up on him. When he does show up on TV these days, a victory over him isn’t that much more significant than beating Fandango.
Chance of a Comeback: 1%. While WWE may treat Rey Mysterio a little more respectfully when (if) he comes back, he’ll probably never get another big feud. After spending so much time on the disabled list the past few years (he’s only had 15 televised matches in 2014, 11 in 2013, and 29 in 2012) it’s hard to blame creative for not investing in him. When he does call it quits, though, he should easily make the Hall of Fame.
