10 Depressing WWE Career Free Falls 10

10. Curtis Axel

When you’re the son of perfection, where can you go? Become more perfect? Apparently not, as Curtis Axel tried to build the second act of his career off of his popular father’s gimmick, and subsequently fell flat on his face. Still, you can’t say that WWE didn’t at least try, well very poorly tried at least. For a couple years, fans knew Axel as Michael “why in the hell is his name not just Joe Hennig” McGillicutty. Every single wrestling fan knew that this persona had no chance of getting over, but Vince McMahon loves his Irish names.
Axel’s Peak: After disappearing from TV for some time, McGillicutty was rebooted as Curtis Axel on the May 20, 2013 edition of Raw. There, he was immediately thrown into a feud with Triple H (who then immediately called him a child and slapped him in the face). Basically, the first five minutes of his re-debut was his peak.
Where he is Now: Stuck in a completely forgettable and boring tag team with Ryback. Axel also seems to be experimenting with new outfit choices that make him look like someone you’d see at your local indy show.
Chance of a Comeback: 1%.
Unless Axel somehow finds a magic bottle of charisma, he’s doomed to be stuck in low-card tag teams or jobbing on Main Event for the rest of his run. He’s technically sound in the ring, so maybe he’ll become a trainer someday. There’s worse ways to make a living!
