The Undertaker’s 10 Most Shocking Controversies

The Undertaker’s 10 Most Shocking Controversies

The Undertaker has had a long successful career, but he hasn’t been immune to his share of controversies. Losing at WrestleMania 30 is already being called the most controversial point of his career. Granted, the end of the 21 year Mania winning streak was a bold decision, but this wasn’t the first big controversy to swirl around ‘The Deadman’.
Everything from threatening his colleagues, bad taste angles, arena incidents and broken marriages have been part of Mark Calaway’s real life story. The drama of his real persona has at times eclipsed that of his character. The Undertaker story in itself is something which courts controversy, an at times poor taste and satanic gimmick which has ruffled its share of feathers over the years.
This latest feature will detail 10 controversies from Undertaker’s past. In starting the discussion we should first explore his WrestleMania 30 loss a bit further. Was it really the biggest controversy of his career? It will certainly be one of the biggest talking points, that’s for sure. Fans are terming it as a ‘controversy’ because they believe the WWE committed wrestling sacrilege by booking the loss. This upset has bounded off into conspiracy theories such as Lesnar wasn’t meant to win or Taker only lost because he was injured. The truth of it is Undertaker lost because Vince McMahon asked him to … and for some observers, that in itself was a decision of controversy.
Now let’s explore the history which came before that night….

CM Punk Says He Will “Never, Ever” Wrestle Again

CM Punk Says He Will “Never, Ever” Wrestle Again

Controversial star has denied that he will ever return to the squared circle in new video interview.

CM Punk has denied that he will ever wrestle again.
Speaking to CBS Cleveland’s Chris Van Vilet at the AP Music Awards red carpet at the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame event which CM Punk co-hosted, the former WWE Champion and free agent was asked if fans would ever see him back wrestling in a squared circle. His response was calm and assured (before turning a little comical, but his initial response seemed genuine);
No, no. No. Never, ever. Never, ever, ever. They’re going to go crazy on Twitter, they’re going to hold me to it and yea whatever.”
When asked if he was a current WWE Superstar or a former WWE Superstar, Punk simply replied with;
“Neither. I’m CM Punk.”
This confirmation that Punk’s mindset is that he is retired from wrestling for good is pretty much the only time the controversial star has gone public about his wrestling future since quitting the WWE hours before the RAW show after January’s Royal Rumble. After staying quiet all throughout the year as his contract was expiring and the wrestling universe was going crazy with speculation over his status, Punk married AJ Lee and then officially became a free agent earlier this month after his WWE contract expired.
You can see the full interview with Punk’s comments below;

Another Update On C.M. Punk/WWE: Has Their Relationship Improved At All?

There was some speculation that C.M. Punk's relationship with WWE may have improved at least a little bit due to A.J. Lee's return and the fact that they aired his Best In The World documentary on the WWE Network. However, the word coming out of Raw on Monday night is that Punk's relationship with the company has not improved at all and that at this point their relationship is probably the worst that it's ever been.

It should also be noted that Punk's profile on WWE.com was moved to the Alumni section on the same day that his special aired on the WWE Network.

What WWE Won't Do When CM Punk's Contract Expires

We previously reported that WWE could add six months CM Punk's contract when it expires later this month, similar to what they did with Rey Mysterio for missing an extended period of time. However, a source notes that the company in all likelihood will not extend Punk's contract as the belief is that it's not in anyone's best interest.

CM Punk owns his own name and will be able to use it going forward, in fact his first post-contract appearance will be hosting the Gibson Brands AP Music Awards on July 21st.

Another Backstage Update On Roman Reigns' Future

In another update on WWE's plans for Roman Reigns, it's being reported that Daniel Bryan's injury has contributed to Reigns receiving the strong push that he has recently. WWE officials always had plans to push Reigns, but he is being pushed quicker now than he would have if Daniel Bryan would not have gotten injured.

As for their plans for Reigns over the next few months, he is expected to keep on feuding with both Triple H and Randy Orton.

Later on this year, Reigns could feud with fellow Shield alumni Seth Rollins and Reigns is also considered a favorite to win the 2015 Royal Rumble Match.

PHOTO: Has Bray Wyatt Turned Face In Tokyo Japan?

A photo which surfaced online today of Bray Wyatt hitting Eric Rowan with a chair at a WWE event in Tokyo has become the talk of the internet wrestling community with many believing Wyatt has turned face.

In reality, the photo was taken moments after John Cena, who was being held by Rowan ducked leaving Rowan to be struck by the chair accidentally by Wyatt.

Bray is still a heel.

Kurt Angle Turns Down Contract With TNA Wrestling

Kurt Angle has revealed to Jim Ross on "The Ross Report" that he was offered a new contract by TNA recently but turned it down. Angle recently made his return to TNA in an on-screen executive role following a torn ALC that will keep him out of the ring for at least six months.

Movie Director Praises Dave Batista's Work In "Guardians Of The Galaxy"

Movie director James Gunn said the following about Dave Batista's performance as "Drax the Destroyer" in the movie Guardians of the Galaxy:

“I can’t tell you about how good Dave Bautista is. Like there is nobody in the world who could do what he’s doing in this movie ‘cause Drax has this Shakespearean way in which he speaks and he’s this big broad character, and yet he’s also a very damaged and tender soul and he gets a lot of the funniest lines in the movie. And Dave’s able to do all of that and be a gigantic bald dude. I can’t even see how it’s possible that we found him you know and how that happened.”

News and Storyline Plans For Chris Jericho

WWE officials have considered The Miz vs. Chris Jericho for this month's Battleground pay-per-view and holding off on Jericho vs. Bray Wyatt for SummerSlam in August.

Jericho however is back with the company until September so his only feud will be with Bray Wyatt.

The hope is Jericho can elevate Wyatt to the next level.

Miz vs. Jericho will take place on Monday's Raw.

Latest on Brock Lesnar’s Return Schedule

While Brock Lesnar is expected to win the WWE World Heavyweight Title and there’s been talk of Lesnar defending against Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 31, it’s still unknown how much Lesnar will be working besides SummerSlam, Night of Champions and a possible appearance at Battleground to put “plan B” in motion against John Cena.

It’s also expected that he would work Royal Rumble and WrestleMania 31 at least but there would be many dates he would have to work if he’s going to hold the title for several months.

Vince McMahon Calls for More WWE Cuts, Update on WWE Losses for 2014

Vince McMahon has reportedly ordered more major cuts for WWE.

Apparently the cutbacks are working as WWE’s losses for this year won’t be nearly as large as they were expecting just a month ago. The latest number going around is into eight-figures.

There continues to be a lot of fear within WWE that there are major cuts coming besides the talent cuts and some production cuts that have already been done.

As noted, the cuts are a result of WWE’s new TV deal being announced and the increase in fees coming in much lower than WWE officials expected.

WWE production told not to mention CM Punk

Last week, WWE aired a Money In The Bank numbers video similiar to the video they air when they hype the Royal Rumble. The numbers video noted that Kane and Christian had been in nine Money In The Bank matches (the most in history) and the most cash-ins were in June (2).

The word from the office to the production was to make sure CM Punk was not mentioned or shown in the video even though he won the Money In The Bank twice and cashed in and won the title when he cashed in.

CM Punk’s WWE contract expires this month

CM Punk might be free and clear from WWE this month since his deal is set to expire. There’s a chance that WWE extends his deal the way they did with Rey Mysterio since Punk technically “owes” them time for sitting out since late January. Mysterio’s deal was extended until next year since the company has the right to do so based on the terms of the contract. Basically, WWE claimed that Mysterio owed them time since he sat out with injuries.

So, I suppose they could do the same with Punk but I’m not sure how his deal is structured. If not then he’s free and clear to do whatever he wants after this month. I highly doubt we’ll see Punk wrestling for another company though since he’s pretty much set financially.
