The Undertaker’s 10 Most Shocking Controversies 10

10. Hanging Big Boss Man

When The Undertaker beat Big Boss Man inside Hell in a Cell at WrestleMania 15 it was your standard 9 minute squash match. No one ever believed Undertaker would lose. What happened next though shocked everyone.
With help from the Brood and Paul Bearer, Undertaker proceeded to tie a noose around Bossman’s neck, hanging the star from the roof of the Hell in a Cell. The structure raised with Bossman hanging, the implication being that Taker had killed the star. Controversially Bossman struggled to get loose before going limp, which worried some fans that a WWF stunt had gone wrong. Even us fans in the know were slightly disturbed, seeing somebody ‘killed’ was beyond the usual wrestling fare.
Undertaker’s part in all of this and his satanic connotations wasn’t the WWF at their most kid friendly. Years later the controversy would be given a new edge of darkness when Bossman died for real in 2004. Aged just 41 he was mourned by the wrestling community, in some ways illustrating why the WWE should never script death angles … the real tragedies are all too often just around the corner. The Undertaker execution angle is now something WWE and Taker don’t like to talk about.
