6. The Cancer Story
It amounted to nothing, but in the summer of 2011, fans were convinced the Undertaker had cancer. Sparking this speculation was the fact Taker lost a significant amount of weight and shaved his head, at the same time as wife Michelle McCool retired from WWE to spend more time with her husband. You can see how the dots got joined together, but really, there was nothing to the story.
And yet the speculation never went away. Internet forums were packed with the reports, even after Taker returned to WWE in 2012, fans still maintained he had suffered some sort of major illness in 2011. Admittedly he looked very different from the year previous, but it was hardly basis to believe he had been seriously ill. Nevertheless, some fans are still adamant, calling it a controversy because WWE conspired with Taker to cover the illness up and get him back to work.
Ultimately, we have to believe this controversy was more existing in the minds of fans more than it ever existed in reality.
