6. Hade Vansen Challenging The Undertaker
Possibly the biggest nearly-man story in wrestling history, Hade Vansen was a British wrestler who was signed to the WWE alongside other U.K. standouts like Wade Barrett and Sheamus. Hollywood actor Fredde Prinze Jr. was actually a member of the creative team at the time and crafted an intricate storyline for Hade’s debut.
He was to appear on TV via pre-taped promos in which he would cryptically call out the Undertaker, eventually appearing in person with an entire cult backing him, a little like Raven and his group Raven’s Nest in WCW. They would then attack the Undertaker, beating him him and kicking off a feud in which ‘Taker would pick off members of Hade’s cult until the story culminated in a match between the two at Wrestlemania 25.
It sounds like the dream debut situation for any wrestler and when Prinze Jr. presented the idea to Stephanie McMahon, she loved the idea and gave it the green light, his first promo popping up on Smackdown on the 12th December, 2008….
All things considered, it was a pretty good promo and Hade came across as a sort of satanic Art Malik-esque villain. The feud could have been good television but unfortunately for us and Hade, Vince McMahon didn’t think so: he saw the promo on SmackDown and considered Hade ‘too small’ to challenge ‘Taker, exercising his executive authority and cancelling the entire storyline.
Hade was sadly let go from the company not long after and all that remains is one very well produced and executed promo that aired rather randomly on WWE television.
