10. Don Muraco Was Originally Known As The Rock
Don Muraco was inducted in the WWE Hall of Fame in 2004 and was also the first wrestler known as The Rock. You would think that WWE would never give somebody else that nickname, but that’s exactly what happened when Rocky Maivia became The Rock in 1997.
It’s not like Muraco was some unknown in WWE. He was a two time Intercontinental Champion that was a prominent figure on WWE programming throughout the 1980s. You might remember him as the guy that Jimmy Snuka jumped on when he did his famous cage dive over 30 years ago. If you watch WWE programming, though, they act as if The Rock was the first one to use the name and that Don “The Rock” Muraco really didn’t matter. It’s a shame that his legacy was ignored.
The Rock isn’t the first guy to basically take a nickname from somebody else. It’s similar to how Ric Flair got “The Nature Boy” nickname from Buddy Rogers although that wasn’t as bad because it was just a nickname. In this case Rock is using it as his main wrestling name.
