4. He Never Changes
John Cena has stated on countless occasions that he is loyal to those that support him, he respects those who do not and that he will never change. And for WWE fans, this should be enough.
But it’s not and it likely will never be.
The fact is that Cena’s character has endured every hardship imaginable. He has been booked in impossible matches he has no business overcoming. His friends have turned on him and tried to destroy him. He has been viciously assaulted and left for dead numerous times. He is booed and jeered, genuinely hated by an audience that he does nothing but try to please.
And yet he hasn’t changed at all. Not even a little bit.
This may be the most unbelievable reason on this countdown. The truth is that many great characters from literature undergo some sort of tragedy, some sort of trial or tribulation that has tested their mettle. But they strive, they persevere, until they finally overcome their obstacles and achieve their goals.
But almost all of those characters are dynamic, they are not static. That means that at some point, they undergo some sort of change. The change can be physical or it can be mental but very rarely is a character exactly the same on page 500 that he was on page 1.
John Cena however is not one of those characters. He is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. And while WWE may not believe it’s an issue, fans most certainly do.
And they are absolutely sick of it.
