2. Carlito
It’s amazing to think that it’s been four years since we last saw Carlito on WWE TV (in a wrestling sense), so isn’t it about time he comes back and has another run with the company? He’s still very much an active wrestler, competing all around the world for various promotions, but Carlito’s gimmick is one that could find a place in today’s WWE once again.
There’s a distinct lack of Latino representation on the WWE card these days; Sin Cara is nowhere to be seen, and Rey Mysterio’s injury problems continue to see him ruled out of action. Alberto Del Rio is going nowhere (which is a crime), so a return for Carlito would at least see him get a decent push upon coming back.
When he first debut back in the WWE, his gimmick involved simply spitting apple in the face of people who “didn’t want to be cool”. Naturally that’s a pretty unique gimmick to have, so there was no surprise when it worked out pretty nicely. He beat John Cena on his debut (yes, you read that right) for the United States Championship, and it seemed like a star had been born.
Carlito was no stranger to speaking out about poor booking from WWE officials though, even requesting his release on a couple of occasions, before being convinced to stay. His record with the infamous Wellness Policy wasn’t great either, and it was his refusal to enter rehab that led to the termination of his contract. However, the WWE have welcomed back stars with greater problems in the past, so perhaps it’s time to forgive and forget, and have the apple spitting Latino back on our screens for another run?
In the year his father was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, it would be an incredibly apt time for him to come back, too.
