15 WWE Stars Who Loved To Be Hated 8

8. Bret Hart

Bret Hart played the role of babyface for most of his WWE career, but he’s recently revealed that the favourite version of his ‘excellence of execution’ character came during his time as a heel with the Hart Foundation in 1997. It was a time in which Hart, along with Brian Pillman, Jim Neidhart, the British Bulldog and his brother Owen came together to ram Canada down the throats of American viewers.
The Hitman was never considered the best talker on the microphone, but he really came into his own with his promos as the faction leader at the time. He took the time to antagonise superstars like Stone Cold Steve Austin and his nemesis Shawn Michaels on the mic, which ultimately contributed to the growth of both men’s characters that year.Hart has also admitted that 1997 was the peak time of his career, before he was unceremoniously screwed out of the World Wrestling Federation in Montreal in November.
The Excellence of Execution revealed recently that he would have loved to see the Hitman at his ’97 peak square off against John Cena today, with the nationality debate the centre of the gimmick. It would have been good!
