5. Paul London Can’t Keep A Straight Face

Paul London is legitimately one of the more charismatic and athletic high-flying wrestlers of the last decade or more. That didn’t stop WWE firing him in November 2008, following eighteen months of poor judgement and worse instincts.
Debuting with WWE in mid-2003, London would make a good name for himself in fast-paced, exciting tag matches with the talented likes of Billy Kidman and Brian Kendrick. However, he’d find himself catching Vince McMahon’s eye in entirely the wrong way during the fateful ‘limousine explosion’ angle of June 2007, smiling on live television backstage right before the car exploded.
McMahon would explode in similar style, convinced that London had sabotaged the angle, while London himself claimed that he simply hadn’t realised he was in shot. However, the following year would see similar incidents occur. London would behave badly, messing up both live and pre-taped promos, and goof off on a regular basis.
Even after asking for and being given time off to recharge his batteries, London returned with no real change in his demeanour. He and Kendrick were phenomenally talented in the ring… but a push became impossible, as the majority of their pre-taped vignettes and promos for a decent angle were considered so amateurish that they couldn’t be aired.
His refusal to take his job or his character seriously, combined with a reputation for arguing with the writers and being very vocal about his issues with storylines, made a release inevitable, and London was given his marching orders in November 2008.
