6. The Miz
Mike Mizanin is the polar opposite of Philip Brooks. Whereas CM Punk never really appeared to care about the cheers or boos, but was such a masterful crowd manipulator that every moment with him felt entirely authentic, The Miz’s entire WWE career has felt like it was a carefully crafted and entirely intentional ploy to curry the crowd’s favor to his cause. Thus, in feeling like he’s a robotic “Create-A-Wresling Heel,” his persona comes off as desperately needing boos to approve of his entire pro wrestling career.
Let’s look at where The Miz is right now to really put this all together. He’s a complete “pastiche” wrestler, pieces of other men haphazardly glued together to create one man struggling to really find himself as a next-level talent. Here are the pieces:
“Hollywood Rock”-style entrance
“Cool asshole wrestler” sunglasses
Ring robe that looks like a tablecloth if only to incite jeers and laughter
In The Miz literally appearing to be another person (and not being himself turned up to 110%), he’s definitely feeling desperate for approval at this point in his career, and that’s unfortunate.
