5. Steve Austin’s Wife Debra Was His Manager Until The Angle Was Completely Dropped

                                             

WrestleMania 17 (or X-Seven as WWE called it) is widely considered to be the best show that WWE has ever had. It was great because of the depth of the roster, the time given to the biggest matches and the incredible main event as The Rock defended the WWE Title against Steve Austin.

What was interesting about the build was that Vince McMahon decided to play some mind games against The Rock by appointing Austin’s wife (at the time) Debra as Rock’s manager. Keep in mind that The Rock was not the kind of guy to have a manager, nor did he want one, especially Austin’s wife. It was done with the idea that McMahon wanted to make things uncomfortable for his two biggest stars.

Remember that incredible “My Way” video package building up to Rock/Austin? It was one of the best videos that they’ve ever done. In the video, there are clips of Debra being assigned as The Rock’s manager and Austin wasn’t too happy about it. If you watch the match, though, there’s no sign of her.
They completely dropped the lovely Debra from the match without officially announcing anything. It was just ignored on WWE TV. It didn’t really hurt the match and Debra returned to TV when Austin went heel, but it was bizarre that they would even do the angle in the first place.
